Working with us is weird
Im not going to lie. This is my second time writing this specific blog post and the last one was perfect, that is until my laptop froze and I lost it all. Darn technology. I think the issue is fixed, but who knows? I sure dont :/ But that is not the point. The point of this blog is, you guessed it, working with us is weird. Now I don't mean weird in a bad way, in fact I mean the opposite. I've always been someone that marches to the beat of my own drum and so we don't necessarily conform to normal 'wedding photographer' stereotypes.
So what am I going on about? Well, when we were photographing Mattie and Cole's wedding back in April, I caught myself saying a phrase that I've said many times before at other weddings, and I realized that I never really say it until the day of the wedding and, well, it's time to break that habit and explain myself. When a problem arises, and that's any problem small or big, and I help resolve it and keep the day running as smoothly as possible. It doesnt matter if its photography related or not, though if it seems to be outside the scope of photography no one ever expects me to help. Usually I laugh, exclaim that we are a full service photography company and we've got their back and then proceed to help however we can. I realized after that particular wedding that maybe I should tell people ahead of time what this means.
So what do I mean by "full service photography company"? Well, its simple. As wedding professionals, we've seen more than the average persons share of weddings, so we know how to help with boutonnieres and how to do up a bustle and we will show your wedding party how to so that you dont miss out on those important pictures. We will play the bad guy if you've got a guest doing something you don't approve of.
Your wedding day is supposed to be about you and your fiancé sharing your special day with your loved ones. Celebrating with laughter, smiles and an all around good time, not being blindsided by random emergencies or situations that you may have not anticipated or are prepared to handle.
Mo st people think that our job as photographers is to stand in the background and just document the day, maybe step in and pose them or fix a small detail in their clothes for their pictures. As wedding professionals who love what they do, we strive to help make your day run as smoothly as we can. We recognize that each wedding is unique with its own unique stress and challenges, and we come ready to help you where we can. We call ourselves a ‘full-service’ photography company on wedding days, meaning that we will do whatever we can to make sure you are happy and having fun all day so that your wedding photos are as amazing as you are. Our priority is you, with a heavy emphasis on photography. So when you work with Dragon and the Butterfly Studios, you not only are getting a quality photographer, but you are getting people who will genuinely care about you and how your day is going, people who will celebrate your triumphs and all the while capturing as many of your memories as possible for you to relive the awesomeness of your day for years to come.
So how is this weird, Ali? Well, potential stranger, I will tell you! Within a few hours, its more than likely that you will feel our happiness for you and it will almost feel like we've been friends for a few years, if not for a few decades. Its a weird knack I have, and I'm not going to lie: this is part of why the consultation meetings are SO important. You should feel like that is your friend behind the big impersonal black box, not some stranger who is holding the life of your wedding pictures in their hands. The more comfortable we are with each other, the better your wedding pictures are, especially where they serve as positive memories. To me, its just really weird that I am able to make such awesome connections to people on one of the most important days of their lives and genuinely feel like I've known them for a while.
Look, I know I'll end up on a tangent at this point. The point is, yeah its gonna be weird working with us, but a few things are for sure: you may end the day feeling like you've got your own cheer section that double as photographers and we might just be bffs; we are going to do everything in our power to make sure your day runs smoothly while snapping some amazing memories of your day; we have your back. And honestly, this is true of any session that we work--weddings are just a little more hands on with a lot more time involved.
